Photos - Conventions of the Form
I would like the majority of my writing and pen/brush work to look drawn and have a bit of a comic feel to it like the pictures of the drawings above.
I could also include some concertina elements, maybe for a fact file section.
A nice idea for a cover might be to combine photographs and drawings.
Or just keep it simple and add little handmade touches so set it apart.
I could even make full blown pop out rooms, a perfect idea for this would be to make a garage or some sort of pit stop.
I like the bold and simple colouring of this zine, it works really well with the style of drawing and the result is striking. Almost like a drawing version of bubble writing.
Another element I could involve in my final zine is a page filled with one really detailed drawing.
A couple more pop our elements that I liked the idea of.
The pages of my zine don't even need to be attached to each other, I could complete them all and just hold them together with a couple of bands.
Other nice little touches I have considered using are things like velcro fastenings.

Photos - Research of Subject Matter
This post is outlining the type of information I want to include in my zine. The first example is having news articles where I can talk about all the latest goings on in the racing world.
I also want to have little bits where cars/a car are driven and rated along with a description of what it was like to drive and maybe a picture.
Just another example of the sort of pictures I would like to include, obviously mine would all be hand drawn.
Another idea I had was to review a particular engine of a car stating exactly what the spec is and giving a little glimpse of what it looks like under the hood.
I definitely want to include a section where all of the newest gear and parts are rated because I think this would be a really nice chance to do some nice little detailed drawings.
I may even include further articles about new issues in the car world such as the new engine ford is bringing out across their range and maybe add some feedback of what people think about these issues.
I could even add in a couple of adverts or good measure!

Experimenting With Fake Etching
I started by etching my picture into a couple of sheets of mirrored card. This was a new design and was completely thought up as I was etching it. In all I made a main printing sheet and also a colour overlay layer.
Here is the print of the main picture. I am happy with how clearly and crisply the image came out, especially the seats and the parallel lines.
Here is the print of the colour overlay layer, I think this will work really well to add a bit of depth once everything is put together in photoshop.
Here you can see I opened both of the images in Photoshop and began adjusting the levels, hue and other settings before layering it all up and adding a bit of colour.
In this screenshot you can see the layers I ended up with.
And here is the finished piece.

Experimenting with Stencils and Spray Tools
This is the image I first begun with, you can see i've already deleted some of the background in preparation for stencil making.
As you can see here I then began cutting out stencils to aid me in my spray work.
Here is the top layer stencil, it consists mainly of the bodywork of the car.
And here is one of the under layer stencils, these consist of all other parts such as wheels, interiors, chassis parts etc.
I also wanted to include some details such as badges, number plates and tyre treads which were too fine to cut out a stencil for so I drew onto tracing paper instead.
At this point I really wanted to see how my piece was going to turn out so I scanned in all the stencils and components and layered them up in Photoshop, also adding some of the colours I wanted to use.
Once I was happy with the layout of my car I started using my stencils to spray onto paper and this is what they turned out like, this is of course the top layer.
This then being the middle layer
And finally the bottom layer.
After I had coloured all of the layers and put them together I was left with something like this but I was unhappy with it looking so flat.
So I just did some random spraying onto a sheet of A4 and scanned it in to see what it would look like.
It succeeded in making a really nice, loose background layer for quite a detailed piece to sit on top of. I feel that quite a grungy background emphasizes the intricate design of a beautiful old car and creates a real statement piece.
