This is the image I first begun with, you can see i've already deleted some of the background in preparation for stencil making.
As you can see here I then began cutting out stencils to aid me in my spray work.
Here is the top layer stencil, it consists mainly of the bodywork of the car.
And here is one of the under layer stencils, these consist of all other parts such as wheels, interiors, chassis parts etc.
I also wanted to include some details such as badges, number plates and tyre treads which were too fine to cut out a stencil for so I drew onto tracing paper instead.
At this point I really wanted to see how my piece was going to turn out so I scanned in all the stencils and components and layered them up in Photoshop, also adding some of the colours I wanted to use.
Once I was happy with the layout of my car I started using my stencils to spray onto paper and this is what they turned out like, this is of course the top layer.
This then being the middle layer
And finally the bottom layer.
After I had coloured all of the layers and put them together I was left with something like this but I was unhappy with it looking so flat.
So I just did some random spraying onto a sheet of A4 and scanned it in to see what it would look like.
It succeeded in making a really nice, loose background layer for quite a detailed piece to sit on top of. I feel that quite a grungy background emphasizes the intricate design of a beautiful old car and creates a real statement piece.
